Thor Walkie Talkie Review and Giveaway!

On May 6th, Marvel Studios released their epic film, Thor. “At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth”.

I have boys in my house, and they love hero films. All things superhero, anything involving heroes, warriors or saving the day is played out daily in my home. Even the girls love this kind of play. Although we haven’t seen Thor yet, my boys are a little too young still, they know who he is. We were sent a set of Thor Walkie Talkies to review.

They are super “cool’, they are shaped like hammers, which makes them even more fun! My boys have never had walkie talkies before, and think they are the most fun thing invented since they discovered Petville on Facebook!

Would you like to win a set for your little hero? Easy entries!

What is TRUST?

What is trust exactly? Is there more than one emotional definition for the word? I have been contemplating trust lately, a lot. So I looked up the meaning in the dictionary.

Trust: noun

1. reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.
2. confident expectation of something; hope.
3. confidence in the certainty of future payment for property or goods received; credit: to sell merchandise on trust.
4. a person on whom or thing on which one relies: God is my trust.
5. the condition of one to whom something has been entrusted.
6. the obligation or responsibility imposed on a person in whom confidence or authority is placed: a position of trust.
7. charge, custody, or care: to leave valuables in someone’s trust.
8. something committed or entrusted to one’s care for use or safekeeping, as an office, duty, or the like; responsibility; charge.
Basically, putting your trust in someone requires confidence in that person. It is about expectations, hope, strength and integrity.  If you are the one being trusted, you have a responsibility and obligation to live up to those expectations. I guess that is why it hurts so much when someone breaks your confidence in their ability to be trusted. When your hope in them is broken, when the strength to uphold their part of the responsibilities and obligations of life is shattered, trust is almost impossible to rebuild.
Integrity is part of the definition that really jumps out at me. When I examine who I have put my trust into lately, I have found that integrity is so important. People that follow through with what they say they will do, who uphold my expectations in them are trustworthy. When the hope I place in them is rewarded with actions that coincide with those hopes, they are deemed trustworthy.

Trusting someone involves a great deal of vulnerability. To commit to allowing someone to take care of a need for me is a huge leap of trust. I am learning to evaluate who I trust. I have been too open with who I trust, freely giving it to just about anyone. This is no longer my policy. You have to earn my trust. It is hard to obtain. It is not easy for me to be confident in another person’s ability to provide stability, to follow through with my expectations, to put my hope in them. Maybe someday my heart will heal and I will be the openly trusting, free-spirited girl I was again. But for now, I am guarding my heart. My heart is on lock down, and only the truly worthy are allowed entrance. Broken trust is no fun. It is hard to move past, it’s difficult to re-give.

Have you ever had your trust broken in a huge way? How did you move past it, were you able to salvage your relationship with that person? Were you able to move past the incident and re-build the trust? Tell me about it.

I’m making this new life work for me. It’s really tough, harder than I thought it would be. The hardest parts are not making the bills on time. or dealing with the kids without help, or doing everything around the house. I didn’t have much help to begin with.

The things that are the hardest are so numerous.

Not sharing my day-to-day life with someone. Not bumping into someone in the bathroom in the mornings. No one to open doors for me.

Not having adult conversations in person with someone who loves me. Sure I talk to adults. But it’s not the same as the conversations I had with you, face to face.

Sleeping alone. There is no one there to snuggle up next to, no one there to wake up entangled with.

Anticipation. What happens next? Where do we go from here?

Doubt. Can I do this? How do I do this? When will it be better? Will the next phase come fast enough? Can I hold it together until it does come?

Feeling alone. Enough said. Being alone sucks.

Seeing you. I look forward to it. I smile when I see you and the whole world feels smaller. But it hurts too. I can’t touch you. I see you and  it feels so good, yet it feels so awful too. Even though it is painful, I can’t stop looking at you.

Nights are the hardest. I can’t sleep, I can’t breathe. I am afraid to dream. I am afraid to see your face. I am afraid to remember. I’m afraid I’ll cry, and I won’t be able to stop. What would that be like, crying without stopping? Would I lose my voice, become dehydrated, die?

I’m just wondering if these terrible feelings will ever stop. I hope they do. I hope it only gets easier, and better. My heart can’t take it much longer. I wish it were next year, then maybe we will be passed the worst of it.

But here we are. We are in this place that there is no escape from. I can’t let you go. I don’t want to. I will go on hurting until the time comes when I don’t hurt anymore. I will live through this. I will come out of it a stronger woman on the other side.

I can.

I will.

I am.

Healthy Fruit Nut Muffins
Makes 1 dozen muffins

2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
½ cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup plain yogurt
½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Powder
½ cup shredded carrots
1 cup coarsely chopped peeled apples
½ cup raisins
½ cup dried cranberries
½ cup coconut

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Spray twelve muffin cups with nonstick cooking spray.

Combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Add the egg, yogurt, butter and vanilla powder and mix with a wooden spoon; do not over mix. Stir in the carrots, apples, pecans, raisins, cranberries and coconut; the batter will be thick.
